In Global Oil, Baroka FC Gets Lucrative Sponsor

New sponsorship for Baroka FC is something to crow about.

Limpopo-based Premier Soccer League’s outfit, Baroka FC, usually doesn’t have much luck when it comes to getting sponsors. Since being promoted into South Africa’s top flight, Baroka (affectionately known as ‘Bakgakga’) has parted ways with two sponsors, Clover and Two Mountains.

However, the club had a change of fortune recently when it reached an agreement with a major oil company, “”It’s an oil company based here in Limpopo,” said club chairman Kurushi Mphahlele on Sowetan Live. “Their name will be on our kit in the new season,” he announced.

Global Oil Africa is the company, chaired by a business magnate, Sedipa John Mphosi. Mphosi hails from a remote area of Rheinland Village, Bochum, on the northern side of Polokwane Town. It’s a village that has a history of going through difficult times.

A villager of this community myself, it’s time for me to have a boastful feeling. I’ll sit with my back against the couch watching Baroka play with the shirt front inscribed “Global Oil.”

How nice!
