Rebuilding or Not, It’s Tough to Be a Kaizer Chiefs Fan

South Africa was watching, and Kaizer Chiefs didn’t come through.

In a packed FNB Stadium Saturday, Orlando Pirates edged out their arch-rival, Kaizer Chiefs, 2-0 to claim their 5th Carling Black Label Cup of the 8th Edition. Over the past few years, Pirates have been dominating this derby. While Chiefs were hopeful coming into this fixture with the addition of new players, Pirates proved to be too much for Chiefs to handle.

Fans who have been playing the blame game with Chiefs’ management and coaches, were allowed to pick the line-up, but it didn’t make a difference.

Is there hope for Kaizer as the team resumes the new season is about seven days? They’ll begin against Highland Parks on August 4. This writer is concerned that it will be difficult to win back fans after Kaizer lost a game vital to restoring support.

It’s challenging to be at Chiefs now–as either player or fan–perhaps more than ever before.

My favorite teams are the Kaizer Chiefs, Chelsea FC, Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur FC, the South African national rugby team (Springboks), and the Proteas. My favourite players are Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eden Hazard, Ousmane Dembele, Andrea Pirlo, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Hashim Amla, Imran Tahir, Temba Bavuma, Handre Pollard, Willie le Roux, Pierre Spies, and Serena Williams.
