Shammi Rana, Rapporteur, UNESCO’s Traditional Sports and Games (TSG), was honored last month with an Honorary Doctorate in Martial Arts Philosophy and Science by University of Asian Martial Arts Studies.

Rana, who was appointed rapporteur in 2017, is also a member of the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

While in the States recently, Rani joined Hari Osias Banaag, member of the TSG Advisory Committee, in meeting met with U.S. Representative John Cox, California’s 21st Congressional district, and Joe Aquirre, mayor of Delano, California.

The four discussed the possibility of establishing a Pan-American TSG headquarters in the city. If undertaken, it would become the epicenter of TSG activities and efforts in North America.

UNESCO is coordinating the growth of TSG worldwide.
