Chris Farley Connected Comedy and Sports

Farley was one of a kind.

Chris Farley always delivered in the comedy world. Whether it was as Tommy in Tommy Boy or Matt Foley “living in a van down by the river” on Saturday Night Live, Farley had people laughing.

Farley was also a big sports fan.

He loved Wisconsin football and played defensive end for his high school football team. He had aspirations for an NFL career but realized that was an overreach. Chris was a talented swimmer, too, particularly in the breaststroke.

Chris also incorporated sports in his skits. The most famous was SNL’s Chicago Bears skit. Farley played a stereotypical Chicago native who always shouted, “Da Bears!

A full life lived short, Farley died from an overdose at the young age of thirty-three–the same age as his fellow comedian, John Belushi.

The year was 1997 and–even after all these years–Chris Farley is fondly remembered and still has ’em laughing.
