Who Is Conor McGregor?

It’s often difficult for sports stars to contain aggressive behavior outside the lines.

Conor McGregor, once a rising star in the world of mixed martial arts, earned plenty of respect on his way to the top of that sport. But he has also gotten in trouble with the law–multiple times–for a variety of offenses, including engaging in felonious activities.

So just who is Conor McGregor?

Since making his debut in 2008, one year after Chris Benoit took his own life at the age of 40 (remember, help is one call away, 1 800 273 8255.), McGregor has had an amazing career. He won the 2013 Match Of The Year Award and won it again in 2016. He won more awards in 2014 and 2017.

Conor was the total act. But his temper often overshadowed those accomplishments.

On April 6th, 2018, Conor and his entourage were in Brooklyn, New York, looking for a fellow UFC fighter named Khabib Nurmagomedov. It was in response to an altercation that happened the previous night at McGregor’s hotel. Khabib was leaving in a bus to compete the following night in UFC 223. McGregor raced after the bus and, in anger, threw a shopping cart at the windshield, injuring Khabib and another fighter. McGregor faced three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief–charges that could have resulted in serving a 10+ year prison sentence. The charges were later reduced to disorderly conduct and no jail time.

Then, on March 23, 2019, a man was taking pictures of McGregor while the fighter was in Miami, FL. McGregor told the man to stop shooting. When the photo-taking continued, McGregor knocked the phone out of his hands, smashed it, and walked away. For that incident, Conor faced robbery charges (a felony) and criminal mischief (a misdemeanor).

Are there two Conor McGregor’s–the MMA legacy and the person who has anger management issues? Perhaps. Or maybe he’s expressing the same emotions in- and out- of the ring.
