2018 was a tremendous year for the Siegel High School cross country team. Located in Murfreesboro, TN, the boys’ team defended its crown as the Tennessee state champion.

Canaan Anderson was nominated for Runner of the Year, and Coach Phil Young was named ‘Coach of The Year,’ both by The Daily News Journal.

“The guys ran great,” Young told TN MileSplit after the meet. “They executed, they gave great effort, they competed and that’s all I could ask them to do. They gave us a chance to win again and we’re very fortunate.”

In related news–and one year after the tragic suicide of runner Josh Harris–Kadin McElwain inspired the team by getting it involved in Operation Christmas Child. The organization gives gifts to underprivileged children around the world.

About Kadin McElwain

I was born in Kingston, New York, the second child of Monika Keiper and Matthew McElwain. At age two, I was diagnosed with autism, and I’m currently undergoing therapy to help me have a good life. I have multiple interests, including music and writing. I started writing seriously at the age of 13 by writing poems on Allpoetry.com, earning a nomination for Best Teen Poet. In high school, I went on to write scripts, articles, and stories. Now in college, my ultimate goal is to make the world a better place.

Kadin, I am a friend of Frank Fear and am a regular listener to Under the Radar. Great Podcast with Frank. Really enjoyed it. 62 years ago I was a Cross Country runner on my high school team. That makes me now older than dirt! Congratulations on your team’s consecutive state championships! Look forward to checking in here & look forward to reading your contributions.
