Ottis Gibson Having Tough Time Finalizing Proteas’ Cricket World Cup Squad

Chris Morris’ recent play is turning heads.

Earlier this week, Pakistan’s cricket team salvaged their pride by avoiding being white-washed. The Pakistanis defeated South Africa by 27 runs in the third, and final, ODI (One Day International) match of the series.

ODIs give players the opportunity to showcase their skills, especially when it comes to being selected to their respective national teams.

And with the Cricket World Cup looming, that’s the challenge these days for South Africa and its coach Ottis Gibson. Rassie Van Dussen, Heinrich Klaasen, Beuren Hendricks, and Andile Phehlukwayo are on a quest to make the squad. Others are, too.

But Chris Morris, for example, may be forcing his way onto the squad.

Gibson might have thought he had things sorted out with all-rounder Phehlukwayo–a man who has been in fine form with his bat and bowling figures. Then Morris performed well in the third ODI against Pakistan, registering 55 runs off 29 balls. Morris was especially impressive in the 14th over, registering 21 runs off the over, with three fours and a six.

Morris’ bowling figures might not have sealed the deal for him, but with 5 ODIs and three T20 matches coming up against Sri Lanka, he’s making things tougher for Gibson.

Upcoming fixtures will tell the tale.
