The Philippines has a rich TSG heritage. The UN has a mix of background and skills to advance TSG in The Philippines. “Manny” Pacquiao is the perfect partner in that quest.

The UNESCO’s Traditional Sports and Games program is gaining strong support around the world. I recently wrote about a meeting held with the mayor of Charlotte, NC. In this piece, I’ll write about another recent meeting held with boxing legend and politician, Emmanuel “Manny” Dapidran Pacquiao. In addition to boxing, Pacquiao is also senator representing his home country of The Philippines.

Pacquiao met in Los Angeles with Shammi Rana, TSG rapporteur, and Hari Osias Bannag, member, TSG Advisory Committee,

The purpose of the meeting was to seek support from The Philippine government to become a member of the UN’s Traditional Sport and Games program. Pacquiao received the proposal and will meet again with the UN representatives in early 2019. Until then, he’ll be training for his January 19th WBA world welterweight title fight with Adrien Broner 19th.

The Philippines has a rich heritage in traditional sports and games, such as Arnis, Eskrima, Kali, and Sikaran. These sports have gained popularity in recent years. UNESCO has the right mix to help advance this work in The Philippines, and “Manny” Pacquiao is the perfect ally in that quest.
