This ‘NFL GOAT Thing’ Has Me Thinking New Thoughts

Some of the very best players, perhaps even The GOAT, has to hold his team together during mediocre seasons.

After watching Sunday’s football games, I ask: Why is it that championships determine a person’s legacy when you have QBs like Brees, Rodgers, Wilson, etc., all of whom have only one championship each?

Those players are very good, but we’ve seen bench players who’ve won championships, too, relying on their teammates’ talent.

It’s no secret that many fans think Tom Brady is the standard for elite QBs, but he’s not in my opinion. I can’t recall the aforementioned QBs ever consistently having had the receiving corps that the New England Patriots have had.

I personally don’t think Brady would’ve been as successful as he has if he didn’t have all those talented receivers, like Moss, Welker, Branch and many others–not to mention the quality of the New England organization as a whole. From the owner down, it’s a well-oiled machine.

The reason I bring this up is that I think this season is putting on display who’s actually a really good player and who has gotten lucky. Let’s face it: NE’s offense couldn’t do much against Tennessee because there weren’t many options for Brady.

I hesitate to call him The GOAT. A true GOAT is gonna play well regardless of who he has around him. That’s why I think its high time that credit goes to other folks who have had to hold their teams together during mediocre seasons.
