Here’s a look at three bargain buys who’ve proven to be great assets.
The India Premier League (IPL) has seen the downfalls of big names, players who were picked for a lot of money and then flopped. A number of low key players, on the other hand, have exceeded expectations.
At the very top of that bargain list are Kane Williamson, Jos Butler, and Ambati Rayudu.

Kane Williamson: Williamson has taken up his leadership role perfectly for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He was a surprise package, not considered a T20 batsman. But he’s currently the orange cap holder scoring 685 runs. He has stepped up in the absence of David Warner and is scoring brilliantly, the best batsman in finding the gaps. As captain, he led his team to the top of the table in IPL’s league stage. Williamson has also been instrumental in rotating his bowlers and has a calm personality. Picked up for just 3 crores, he’s one of the best bargain buys of the season.
Jos Buttler: This English wicket-keeper was a bargain buy at the auction. Buttler was picked up by the Rajasthan Royals for just 4.5 crores. Since then, he has played a pivotal role for the Royals scoring five consecutive fifties. His range of shots and power making him one of the most devastating strikers in the league. In 13 innings for Rajasthan, he scored 548 runs at an average of 55.

Ambati Rayudu: Ambati Rayudu has been a great middle-order batsman for the Mumbai Indians. He scored more than 250 runs in all the seasons except last year. Sold to Chennai Super Kings for just 2.2 crores, he went on to score 586 runs in his 15 matches with an average close to 42 and with a strike rate of 153. He even scored his maiden hundred in the IPL. Rayudu has also been the perfect partner for Shane Watson. They are the main reasons for Chennai’s arrival in the final.
