My Annual Round-By-Round Mock NFL Draft

Here’s how I think things will shake out this year.

ROUND 1

1. Cleveland Browns: Saquon Barkley (RB Penn State)

With the Giants showing their hand at their high interest in Barkley, the Browns cannot afford to hope he falls to the 4th pick in the draft. He is the complete running back, that is, dynamic with the ball while displaying good route running, hands and blocking skills.

Player Comparison: LeVeon Bell (RB Pittsburgh Steelers)

2. New York Giants: Bradley Chubb (EDGE NC State)

After losing out on Barkley, the Giants will fill another big need at edge rusher, especially after the trade of Jason Pierre-Paul this offseason. Chubb is the ideal combination of size, strength and agility, that can beat offensive tackles with several techniques off the edge, while stand up in run defense.

Player Comparison: Terrell Suggs (OLB Baltimore Ravens)

3. New York Jets: Sam Darnold (QB USC)

The Jets move from 6 to 3 really pays off, as they have their choice of QBs after the top two teams chose best player available. Darnold has a lot to learn as far as reading defenses and cutting down turnovers but has the intangibles to take over a locker room, while natural skills to be extremely productive on the field.

Player Comparison: Kirk Cousins (QB Minnesota Vikings)

4. Cleveland Browns: Josh Allen (QB Wyoming)

After passing on QB with their first pick, they still get their original target in Josh Allen. He has all the physical traits any team would desire, with the strongest arm in the draft, but needs to fix some inaccuracy issues.

Player Comparison: Cam Newton (QB Carolina Panthers)

5. Denver Broncos: Quenton Nelson (OG Notre Dame)

After signing Case Keenum to a two-year deal, the Broncos are not in as urgent need of a QB. Nelson fills one of their biggest holes, while having potential to be an All-Time great at interior offensive line, with his combination road grading mentality, agility and footwork.

Player Comparison: David DeCastro (OG Pittsburgh Steelers)

6. Indianapolis Colts: Roquan Smith (LB Georgia)

The Colts will have to rebuild their defense, with a new scheme and defensive coordinator in tact. Smith is not only a true sideline-to-sideline LB, he is a natural leader, that produces against the run and pass, utilizing instincts and speed to get to the football.

Player Comparison: Sean Lee (LB Dallas Cowboys)

7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Denzel Ward (CB Ohio State)

Brent Grimes is on a one-year deal and above 30, while Vernon Hargreaves is still trying to find his place in the defensive backfield. Ward has the speed to run with any WR, while displaying strong technique in locking on to a hip pocket and playing the ball in the air.

Player Comparison: Chris Harris (CB Denver Broncos)

8. Chicago Bears: Tremaine Edmunds (LB Virginia Tech)

The Bears are another team with a new regime and schemed in place on the defensive side of the ball. Edmunds has elite speed and athleticism for a player his size, while having versatility as a blitzer and elite pass defender in the middle of the field.

Player Comparison: Alec Ogletree (LB New York Giants)

9. San Francisco 49ers: Minkah Fitzpatrick (DB Alabama)

After the addition of Richard Sherman, the 49ers can build a special group by adding the best all-around DB in the draft. Fitzpatrick not only has the versatility to play either inside or outside at CB, but also play at free or strong safety, while being a proven leader and winner.

Player Comparison: Malcolm Jenkins (S Philadelphia Eagles)

10. Oakland Raiders: Vita Vea (DT Washington)

The Raiders struggled on defense last year against the run and pass, while needing some more playmakers to take attention away from Khalil Mack. Vea can eat up blockers as a true nose guard, while displaying nimble feet when rushing the passer.

Player Comparison: Kawann Short (DT Carolina Panthers)

11. Miami Dolphins: Baker Mayfield (QB Oklahoma)

The Dolphins have the most productive QB in the draft fall to them outside of the top 10. Mayfield may rub some teams the wrong way with his exuberance, but he is a winner that is a strong leader, while having underrated throwing talent.

Player Comparison: Case Keenum (QB Denver Broncos)

12. Buffalo Bills: Josh Rosen (QB UCLA)

The Bills complete their search for a franchise signal caller after Rosen falls to the early teens. He is a pure passer, that can make all the throws on the field, while displaying nice touch on the ball, though he will need to work on his timing with his lack of mobility outside the pocket.

Player Comparison: Sam Bradford (QB Arizona Cardinals)

13. Washington Redskins: Derwin James (S Florida State)

Washington will not pass on an elite talent like James, especially at a position of need, after losing several DBs this offseason. He has a knack for making big plays, while following the football all over the field and being physical on ball-carriers.

Player Comparison: Ha Ha Clinton-Dix (S Green Bay Packers)

14. Green Bay Packers: Leighton Vander Esch (LB Boise State)

With a strong defensive line, the Packers look to add another playmaker in the middle of the field to play alongside Blake Martinez. Vander Esch excels in pass coverage, while displaying strong instincts in the running game to fill the gaps.

Player Comparison: Donta Hightower (LB New England Patriots)

15. Arizona Cardinals: Lamar Jackson (QB Louisville)

Sam Bradford is on a one-year deal and has not been able to consistently stay healthy to consider him a long-term replacement for Carson Palmer. Jackson brings an exciting brand of play that will lead to a run-based attack in line with David Johnson, similar to Steve Wilks former team in Carolina.

Player Comparison: Russell Wilson (QB Seattle Seahawks)

16. Baltimore Ravens: Mike McGlinchey (OT Notre Dame)

The Baltimore Ravens lack explosiveness on the offense and could be due to the injury issues they’ve had on the offensive line the past couple seasons. McGlinchey is the top tackle in the draft and has the physical tools to play on either side of the line, while dominating on the run and pass equally.

Player Comparison: Dion Dawkins (OT Buffalo Bills)

17. Los Angeles Chargers: Da’Ron Payne (DT Alabama)

With elite edge rushers on the outside, the Chargers will look for help on eating up blocks in the middle. Payne is a penetrator at defensive tackle, that can take away pressure from their DEs, while being a force in the backfield as a three-down lineman.

Player Comparison: Timmy Jernigan (DT Philadelphia Eagles)

18. Seattle Seahawks: Marcus Davenport (EDGE UTSA)

The Seahawks are looking to retool their defense after letting several veterans leave this offseason. Davenport has the ideal size and athleticism to be a core player and elite edge rusher but is raw, needing time under a defensive minded franchise.

Player Comparison: Ziggy Ansah (DE Detroit Lions)

19. Dallas Cowboys: D.J. Moore (WR Maryland)

With the departure of Dez Bryant, the Cowboys will look for help on the outside to make plays in the passing game. Moore has good build and vision to make plays once he gets the ball in his hands, while having the speed to stretch the field and strong hands that rarely misses on anything close.

Player Comparison: Keenan Allen (WR Los Angeles Chargers)

20. Detroit Lions: Taven Bryan (DT Florida)

The Lions lost veteran leadership and productivity with the departure of Haloti Ngata, creating a hole in the middle of the line. Bryan is scheme versatile that can utilize technique and push to drive offensive lineman, while having good footwork to move down the line of scrimmage.

Player Comparison: Cameron Heyward (DE Pittsburgh Steelers)

21. Cincinnati Bengals: James Daniels (C Iowa)

The Bengals had major issues along their offensive line last year and decided to revamp it with adding Cordy Glenn and letting starting C Russell Bodine leave in free agency. Daniels is a smart and athletic center that can use his agility to get out in front in the running game, while quick enough to take on blitzers against the pass.

Player Comparison: Jason Kelce (C Philadelphia Eagles)

22. Buffalo Bills: Isaiah Wynn (OL Georgia)

After losing their entire starting left side of their offensive line, the Bills had to rebuild the unit on the fly, especially with two new QBs. Wynn is a versatile lineman that can play anywhere, being best suited as a G, where he can utilize his short area quickness and strength to be on the move in the running game.

Player Comparison: Brandon Scherff (OG Washington Redskins)

23. New England Patriots: Mason Rudolph (QB Oklahoma State)

The end is approaching for Tom Brady and the Patriots are meticulous in grooming QBs under one of the best of all time. Rudolph has been extremely productive in his spread system in college, which will translate to the creative offenses Josh McDaniels deploys to highlight his strengths once he learns the nuances of the game.

Player Comparison: Derek Carr (QB Oakland Raiders)

24. Carolina Panthers: Jaire Alexander (CB Louisville)

After a failed attempt to sign Breshaud Breeland in free agency, the Panthers still have a need CB depth. Alexander is physical enough to play the slot, while also playing bigger than his frame, being able to handle larger WRs on the outside and make plays on the ball in the air.

Player Comparison: Kyle Fuller (CB Chicago Bears)

25. Tennessee Titans: Harold Landry (EDGE Boston College)

With aging OLBs and a new defensive head coach, the Titans will invest in their front seven early to add youth to the unit. Landry is a pure pass-rusher, who can use speed to get around the edge, while also displaying developed technique to combat OTs.

Player Comparison: Whitney Mercilus (OLB Houston Texans)

26. Atlanta Falcons: Connor Williams (OL Texas)

The Falcons were beat-up on offense by the Philadelphia Eagles in the playoffs and will look at add depth along their line. Williams has the ability to play either G or T at a high level in the NFL, with underrated quickness to attack speed rushers and blitzers.

Player Comparison: La’el Collins (OL Dallas Cowboys)

27. New Orleans Saints: Maurice Hurst (DT Michigan)

The Saints defense was vastly improved last season but still needs to add more talent to the middle of their defense. Hurst’s medical and size is his biggest concerns but is the most explosive DT in the draft that made a habit of making plays in the backfield.

Player Comparison: Mike Daniels (DT Green Bay Packers)

28. Pittsburgh Steelers: Rashaan Evans (LB Alabama)

The future is uncertain for Ryan Shazier and the Steelers lacked depth to replace him in the middle of their defense. Evans is a leader of a winning powerhouse in college that has enough speed to stay on the field against the pass, while excelling as a downfield tackler against the run.

Player Comparison: Vontaze Burfict (LB Cincinnati Bengals)

29. Jacksonville Jaguars: Calvin Ridley (WR Alabama)

The Jaguars decided to start over at WR, after letting both of their starters from the past several seasons leave this offseason. Ridley is game fast, that can separate from DBs with precise route running and a shiftiness that is underrated to elude tacklers.

Player Comparison: Stefon Diggs (WR Minnesota Vikings)

31. Minnesota Vikings: Josh Jackson (CB Iowa)

The Vikings are one of the more complete teams in the NFL but lack another playmaker opposite Xavier Rhodes on the outside. Jackson is a ball-hawk, who has strong instincts when the ball is in the air and good recovery speed to keep WRs close.

Player Comparison: Marcus Peters (CB Los Angeles Rams)

32. New England Patriots: Dallas Goedert (TE South Dakota State)

The Patriots are always looking forward in the draft, adding young players that will eventually take over as starters down the road. Goedert not only has great hands but is a strong run-blocker, making him ideal to play alongside Rob Gronkowski and eventually take over as the top target in the offense as Gronk decides his long-term fate in the NFL.

Player Comparison: Travis Kelce (TE Kansas City Chiefs)

33. Philadelphia Eagles: Derrius Guice (RB LSU)

The Eagles like to play physical offense in the running game to wear down defensive lines from attacking Carson Wentz, by using multiple backs to keep them all fresh. Guice is a powerful runner that attacks the hole, while making yards after contact to extend scoring drives.

Player Comparison: Jay Ajayi (RB Philadelphia Eagles)

ROUND 2

33. Cleveland Browns: Kolton Miller (OT UCLA)

34. New York Giants: Will Hernandez (OG UTEP)
