Tanking/Rebuilding Is Best Option For These NBA Teams

Several NBA teams need to push the reset button and prepare for the future.

The playoff race gets tougher as the regular season rolls to an end. For the good teams it’s great, but getting a playoff spot just to be swept in the first round is a waste of time.

If you agree, then take a look at the teams I think should hit the reset button … hard and now.

5. Memphis Grizzlies: The Grizzlies were off to a good start early in the season until Conley was injured and Fizdale was fired. Since then the season has gone downhill. Memphis is currently 12th in the West, on a 10- game losing streak. This team still has a chance to make the playoffs, but rebuilding would be a better option.

4. New York Knicks: Kristaps Porzingis’ injury really hurt the Knicks’ chances to advance in the East. Yes, New York has promising players in Ntilikina, Mudiay, and Kanter. That’s why they should focus on player development and prepare for Porzingis’ return.

3. Dallas Mavericks: The Mavs did well in the 2017 NBA Draft by selecting Dennis Smith at #9. Now they need to find pieces to surround him. The Mavs are currently in 14th place in the West, which means they’re looking good for at least a Top 5 pick in the upcoming draft. And that’s where this team should focus.

2. Phoenix Suns: The Suns are all about Devin Booker, but they desperately need players to lend him a hand. Booker is averaging 24.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists. He’s only 21-years-old, too. The Suns are a lock for at least a Top 3 pick (currently ranked 15th in the West). A top draft pick and a big-time free agent signing are what this team needs.

1. Atlanta Hawks: Who knows? The Hawks may have been tanking since season’s start. While Atlanta has a great coaching staff, this team really needs players who can execute in a Spurs-like system and support the team’s star, Dennis Shroder. That’s what I view as the Atlanta version of “The Process.”
