What “Fun” Means In Youth Football

, ,

It’s critical to create a balance between having fun and developing football skills.

A lot has been said about kids having fun in football. But “fun” is often misinterpreted as making kids happy.

That often means in promoting fun in ways that are unrelated to youth development in the sport. When that happens, kids are being cheated out of good coaching.

It’s important for coaches to have a clear understanding of what it means to engage young players starting from the age of 3 years.

I know kids want to have fun, but I also understand that we must help them develop football insights and skills. Balancing fun with football objectives is critical.

There are several ways to do this. Make it fun for them to run with the ball, dribble the ball, and pass the ball. Make it fun for them to take the ball away from an opponent. They should also enjoy being part of a team and socializing with teammates and opponents.

Let’s face it: the joy of scoring goals is unmatched in football because scoring requires team play and is very hard to do. Scoring is the ultimate in making football fun!

If young players aren’t taught properly, that will make things more difficult for coaches later on. When players aren’t prepared properly, coaches then have to teach kids what they should have learned at an earlier age.

There’s no doubt about it: it’s critical for coaches to balance fun and football skills.
