NY Giants Still Have One ‘Giant’ Hole To Fill

Storyline: The NY Giants have done a great job filling holes this off-season. But there’s a bit more work to do.

The N.Y. Giants have made some great moves this off-season–better moves than other teams in the NFL East Division, And with the NFL Draft right around corner, this team only needs added depth and a few pieces to make noise.

Fantastic key additions include Brandon Marshall (formerly of the Jets), D.J. Fluker (from the Chargers), and re-signing J.P.P to a long term deal.

Brandon Marshall is the big-bodied receiver that Eli Manning has had success with in the past. Now, if they can make D.J. a part of a strong right side of a young line, then the Giants may have pulled off one of the greatest steals in free agency–with Justin Pugh and DJ Fluker on the same O-line.

The constant complaining of Ereck Flowers at the left tackle position is well understood. However, I think a lot of fans forget how young he is. There’s room for him to grow because he has massive potential.

If the N.Y Giants get a chance to draft Utah tackle, Garrett Bolles, or Wisconsin tackle, Ryan Ramczyk, at #23, then moving Flowers to the right side of the line could be understood–depending on how quickly the rookie can adapt to NFL-level speed.

Without question, Jerry Reese did an excellent job of filling holes this season and keeping his defense together. If he doesn’t want to reach for a tackle or trade up in the Draft, he can allow the best available player to fall into his lap and build depth. The other possibility for Reese is to use a 2nd Round and/or 5th Round pick and swing a trade for left tackle Joe Thomas of the Cleveland Browns–if the Giants want to finish the youth movement and add more picks.

At this point everything is up for grabs. But no matter what they end up doing this off-season, the NY Giants have taken a giant step towards Super Bowl #3 for Eli Manning.
