Have you ever heard the phrase, “This kid is the next Michael Jordan” or “the next LeBron James”?

Most likely you have because we all accept genius for something we can’t do. These two athletes perform at the highest level of satisfaction and amaze us.

We know what they do is a work of art. Were simply blessed with natural ability? Or did they perfect their art through dedication and hard work?

It’s both, of course.

Natural Ability

When we watch great players perform it’s an art form. When actor performs in a play or movie they bring a character to life. Great athletes bringing a game to life.

In basketball, players soar through the air.

In football, a receiver dives for the end zone, catching ball in mid-air.

In baseball, a batter waits for just the right pitch and hits a Grand Slam with a full count.

It’s sports as art form.

 Hard Work

Practice makes perfect, right? I certainly believe that.

Anything you want in life you’ll have to work hard for. Every true athlete knows what it takes to accomplish a certain goal.

When others are ready to go home, the exceptional player will be in a gym working out.

In a game when everyone else tires and struggles, a superior athlete finds a way to push through.

Persistence like that can drawn on in later life.

Some athletes may have the “It Factor,” but it takes commitment and dedication to become a good player. College recruiting and professional scouts don’t rely on natural ability only. They look at speed, strength, physical stature. running ability, etc.

And it takes years of practice to get to that level.
