The 2016 Micromax Asia Cup T20 is scheduled to start today with the clash between India and the hosts, Bangladesh. The 5-nation event will be keenly contested among India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka & one associate nation that will come through the qualifiers. The Indian team is in a bit of a purple patch at the moment and will go into the event as the favourites. Before leaving for Dhaka, the Indian skipper MS Dhoni addressed a media conference on Sunday in Kolkata.

When asked about the team’s preparations Dhoni mentioned the fact that India has been playing T20 matches regularly in the last month or two. It allows the team to get settled into the format. He said: “In this format you have to take away the price tag from your wicket. You have to be more aggressive and take a bit more risk. I always felt it is easier to switch from T20s to Tests but it is more difficult to change from Tests to T20s.”

When asked about his retirement, Dhoni ruled out speculation by saying: “If I say something one month or 15 days back, the answer does not change.” That is about as much reaction as you will ever get out of this “captain cool.” The media has plagued Dhoni with this question and his reactions are understandable.

Dhoni also hinted that he may look to rotate his squad a little to give everyone a go. He said that he will try to give everyone some game time depending upon where the team stands in the tournament. If everyone gets to play, it will be a good thing for the team, he said.

When asked about India’s death bowling woes he promptly replied: “I don’t think it is much of a worry in T20s. We have two fast bowlers who have been bowling well at the death.” He also emphasised that the Asia Cup will be an ideal preparation for the World T20, which gets under way immediately after the Asia Cup. He also added that if & when Mohammed Shami will be fit he will prove to be an asset for the Indian bowling attack.

Cricket fans from every part of the world will now have sights set on this premium Asian cricketing event. Make sure  you watch the Micromax Asia Cup T20 live. You won’t want to miss it!
