Why The Philadelphia 76ers Picked Up Elton Brand

Storyline: The Philadelphia 76ers acquired Elton Brand to mentor Jahlil Okafor. It’s a good pick-up. Written by Peyton Hook, Galesburg, IL.

The Chicago Bulls drafted Elton Brand in the 1999 NBA Draft–the 1st pick in the 1st Round. He averaged 20.1 p.p.g. and 10 r.p.g. in his rookie season. He did it again the following year, contributing almost the same stats.

Brand has moved around over the years. A career highlight was the 2005-06 season when he averaged a career-best 24.7 ppg for the Los Angeles Clippers. Brand has also played for the Sixers (2008-2012), for the Dallas Mavericks (one season), and with the Atlanta Hawks (last season, two years total).

Brand’s productivity has dropped as he has gotten older, but he’s still one of the best power forwards in NBA history. Now Brand has found a home, once again, in Philadelphia.

It appears that the 76ers are finally stepping it up. After a 1-31 start this year, the team picked up two good players in Brand and Ish Smith. The Sixers acquired Brand to mentor Jahlil Okafor. Brand has the experience to teach Jahlil.

Health and productivity will tell how much and how long Brand will play for the Sixers. This former NBA All-Star is a good pick-up for the Sixers. It’s worth following to see how the Sixers do with Brand.
