It’s Nap Time For Baby Bombers, But They’ll Be Back

Yankees deserve kudos on many fronts, but one thing must change. Joey G needs to go.

The Yankees had an amazing season of ups and downs, but they finished the season on a low note Saturday night, losing to the Houston Astros in Game 7 of the AL Championship Series. Despite not getting to the World Series, this team has nothing to be ashamed of.

Let’s start by giving credit where credit is due. I thought C.C. Sabathia no longer had the goods to compete as a fireball hurler. But C.C. proved me (and everyone else) wrong. He adapted and showed he can be the breaking ball ace the Yankees need in big games.

Todd Frazier came around at the end of the year to provide a much-needed veteran boost to a very young team. The players liked to call him ” TODD father.” With his slash-line improving and solid glove, too, the Yankees had steady veterans at each corner.

I also liked the way the starting pitchers stepped up. They accepted the challenge, not to be overshadowed by a dominant bullpen.

But amid these accolades, I believe one thing needs to change: Joe Girardi must go.

Joey G is a poor decision maker. He has proven that time and time again with bad in-game adjustments and bullpen management. Going forward the Yankees need a new voice to guide this young roster and keep the team together.

I was a huge fan of the player Girardi was, but I’m not accepting the manager he has become.

With luck–and for a reasonable price–players should want to stay with this organization and not just deal with their current situation ala Bentances-style. That’s because this team is set-up to make strong runs towards the playoffs over the next four years (and I don’t just mean toward that burnout called “Wild Card“).

I’ll have more to say soon about what the Yankees can do to get better.

As always, Like it. Link it. Share it.
