Meralco Manila FC Under Pressure In Philippines Football League

Despite a fantastic start to the season, Meralco FC has just lost their first game by a score of 7-0. How will this effect the rest of the season?

Despite the fantastic run that Meralco FC has been on–sitting at the top of the Philippines Football League table–many are still doubting their ability to win it all.

One possible sign of things to come was Meralco FC’s humiliating 7-0 defeat on July 15 at home, when they lost to Ceres Negros FC. Could this be a sign that Meralco FC is losing grip on the PFL table?

The loss was Meralco’s first defeat of the season, and it came in a brutal way by the busmen, who inflicted the same scoreline on Ilocos United a week earleir.

The performance was one of the worsts ever by Meralco, as they were seemingly inferior at all positions.

How the Manila club will respond to this heavy hammering in their next game on July 22 against is a mystery. The match sees them facing off against Global Cebu, who are sitting in second, with only two points separating them from the top spot.

As supporters feared, Meralco FC’s dominance in the PFL seems to be over. The Manila club coach Aris Caslib was quick to respond to the lose, saying: “It’s better to lose now than in the more important stage of the competition”.

While the most important stages of the game may not be clear to us, the truth is that Meralco Manila FC is under an immense amount of pressure to maintain its position at the top of the PFL table.

Ceres, on the other hand, has sent a loud message to the Home United of Singapore after the 7-0 hammering of Ilocos United, and the 7-0 humiliation of Meralco, as they are preparing for the AFC Cup Zonal final at home on August 2.

With the two outstanding results, Ceres coach Risto Vidakovic believe’s that they are on the right track as we approach August.

“We played very compact,” he said, “which is what we need in preparation for the AFC Cup.”

Thanks to these two results, the team atop of the table at the end of the year remains a mystery.
