Penn State May Miss Playoffs, Even With Win Against Badgers

Storyline: The College Playoff Committee is going to have a very hard decision picking the final teams if Washington, Clemson, and Penn State all win this weekend. Written by Brian Schneider, PA

Nobody expected Penn State to be in this position.

With a loss to Pitt and Michigan early in the season, Penn State was just looking to make a bowl. But Penn State is now 9-2 and are playing in the Big Ten Championship game this weekend.

The B1G champion will be either PSU or the 9-2 Wisconsin Badgers. The current Playoff Rankings have Wisconsin at #6 and Penn State at #7. Washington of the PAC-12 at 10-1 is #5.

Washington plays Colorado this Friday night in the PAC-12 Championship. If Washington wins the Huskies could end up #4, ahead of Penn State, even if Penn State beats the Badgers.

The rankings could go Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, and Washington.

But make no mistake about it: the committee is going to have a very hard decision if Washington, Clemson, and Penn State all win.
