NC State’s Dave Doeren Will Be Celebrating The ACC Championship Game

Storyline: Close but no cigar, they say. Well, that cigar is close to the exit door … as in Doeren. NC State football needs a new head coach. Written by Kelly Calhoun, Raleigh, NC

Why would anyone think that North Carolina State head coach, Dave Doeren, would have any reason to celebrate the ACC Championship Game between #4 Clemson and, in all likelihood, Va Tech?

Don’t get me started on the possibility of the University of Never-Ending Corruption (aka UNC) eking its way in with a longshot Hokie loss to Virginia … coupled with a Carolina win over Doeren’s Wolfpack. (ABC’ers like me just won’t go there. Period.)

On ACC Championship Game Day, Doeren will be forced to ponder endIess “What If’s.”

What if NC State players called their own plays?

What if they were “self-taught” the fundamentals of football?

What if Bambard had made that 33-yard field goal in regulation?

Don’t you think Doeren will feel awful reminiscing about all those games he should’ve, could’ve, and would’ve won (save Louisville)–including that loss to the #4 team in the nation via a missed field goal that sent the game to OT? You know, the same team that’s playing December 3 for the ACC Championship and, quite possibly, could be playing for a National Championship.

But, I digress. Why or what exactly will Doeren be celebrating on ACC Championship Game Day?

Well, as fate would have it, the ACC Championship Game is played on December 3, the same day Doeren will be celebrating his 45th birthday.

Happy Birthday, Dave!

Sure hope you blow out those candles slowly. Post-birthday we’ll say RIP Dave. It was nice knowin’ ya.

So tragic to lose someone so young.
