Bring the Pain: Kings with no Rings

Hello sports fans.  I’m back from my hiatus with a fresh mind and a broader prospective on life.  Just kidding!  I wanted to make sure that I have your undivided attention.

As the drama of the NBA Finals play out this post season, it’s clear to me that if the Miami Heat are ultimately victorious, another NBA great will bite the dust!  Tracy McGrady will join a short list of great NBA players who have dazzled and wowed crowds all across the country, but couldn’t capture that elusive Larry O’Brien trophy.  This list includes Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone, John Stockton, Charles Barkley, Reggie Miller, Mark Jackson, Vince Carter, Allen Iverson, Chris Webber, Steve Nash, and most currently, Melo and Durant. Sorry diehard fans, reality bites sometimes and leaves a terrible mark!

For all his explosive offensive exploits, the truth remains that Carmelo Anthony will never ever taste championship lore.  Although he’s the King of the Big Apple, he’s had the misfortune of being in the same conference as the best player on the planet, Lebron James!  As long as LBJ has the keys to the South Beach Cruiser, Melo will always finish a distant second or third in the East.

As for Durant, we all witnessed just how much Batman really needs Robin.  Without the services of Russell Westbrook this post season, Durant and the Thunder struggled to knock off the number eight seeded Houston Rockets before being manhandled by the Memphis Grizzlies.  For all the misguided and ill advised shots that he hoists during games, Westbrook provides a gigantic distraction, which allows KD enough space to operate and help the Thunder be successful.  With this being said, KD and Westbrook will always be superb but it will not translate into a championship.  That’s coming from a Thunder fan!  The truth hurts but it must be told.

Stay tuned.  I’m back and better than ever!
