The women’s basketball season was wild! I asked myself several times: Am I watching basketball or WrestleMania? One example is the Fever’s Sophia Cunningham, who has gotten attention and gained popularity this past season.
It all started with the game on August 6, when the Sky’s Dijon Carrington chased Sophie and slapped her face, head, and neck. The incident made Sophie more popular than ever, growing her Instagram by a million followers, totaling 4.25 million altogether.
But that incident, and another involving Fever star Caitlin Clark, led Florida’s attorney general to say that if any incidents like those happened in Florida, it would lead to assault charges.
Sophie is a very confident, courageous woman who defends women’s sports, especially against men who want to play in the WNBA.
Cunningham, who has the looks of a supermodel, spent her childhood on a family farm and was always drawn to athletics. She earned a black belt in taekwondo at five, and the skills she gained from that sport, including concentration, self-management, fortitude, and endurance, have carried into other parts of her life, including basketball.
Sophie Cunningham is a great role model for girls and women worldwide! I congratulate her and wish her the best over the off-season.
