Prospects look great on paper, but what are the odds they will pan out in reality?

On July 24, 2026, LeBron James shocked the NBA by signing a two-year, $8 million contract with the star-studded Philadelphia 76ers, adding to the core of Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, VJ Edgecombe, and new acquisition Jaylen Brown.

Philly instantly became a media sensation and a team that new fans will follow. But behind the headlines are questions.

–Embiid has never played more than 68 games in his decade-long career.
–LeBron is the oldest active NBA player at 41.

How many games will this pair miss? How many of those games will be played with neither player available?

The situation sets up an interesting set of circumstances — either requiring heightened collaboration among the young players or, at the very least, challenging younger players to compensate when one or both stars are unavailable.

Perhaps the biggest question of all is this: Can a team that has struggled to meet expectations for over a decade finally get over the hump?

The answer depends, in part, on whether stars can coexist and thrive, and if they stay healthy enough to contribute as anticipated.

I’m eager to see if Philly can finally complete “The Process” and do what many franchise legends couldn’t.
