“Excessive” is the best way to describe what, in non-basketball terms, was an outrageous act.
Moves here. Danny Moves. You probably already know I have a loose connection to UConn basketball. I’m the creator, inventor, and ambassador of the Danny Hurley Head Butt Dance. It’s going to be bigger than Michael Jackson’s Thriller routine, any day now. It’s trademarked, so don’t even think about it.
Anyway, while I otherwise LOVE UConn basketball, I don’t like what Hurley’s former assistant, Luke Murray, did. Yes, he’s Bill’s son, and the new head basketball coach at Boston College.
[BC hoops hasn’t been relevant in I-don’t-know-how-long. So, in an attempt to distance itself from its losing ways, BC recently fired its long-term basketball radio broadcasters. I repeat: they got rid of their announcers. Some allege that Luke had a lot or everything to do with this.

So now BC basketball is back on the map for all the wrong reasons. It’s August Madness!
What’s next, Luke?
Are you going to get rid of the Golden Eagle mascot? (Try it! He has a union card.)
Change the school colors? (The Jesuits will come after you).
Vanquish the cheerleaders…the pep band…the floor wipers? (Holy, Alma Mater!)
Get rid of the sports information director? (Ok, I can live with that.)
Drop Academic Advisors? (Well, we need at least one).
Purge faculty? (Lordy! Tenure is king!)
Clearly, BC and Murray overstepped here. Sadly, it’s indicative of what’s wrong with college athletics. There’s too much money; the coaches have too much money and power.
All of that said, BC can rectify the problem immediately by simply reinstating the broadcasters. Unfortunately, I doubt this will happen. I’m guessing that their strategy is to let it blow over.
If that’s the case, BC deserves a monumental head butt.
