There are too many teams with inept coaches and dodgy executive leadership for me to sustain passion for a sport I once loved unconditionally.
When it comes to the NFL, it is said there are only 32 of those jobs in the world. That is the undisputed truth. But how many of those jobs are really worth having?

We’ll start with the Dallas Cowboys, the best of the worst jobs. Basically speaking, the head coach might as well toss aside his clipboard and pick up a set of Pom-poms. Jerry Jones (the team’s owner) is such a meddling pain in the keister. He’s pretty much a cheerleader.
The last I’ve heard (at the time of this writing), the Arizona Cardinals and the Las Vegas Raiders had yet to hire new coaches. Hilariously, both teams have said they’re ‘weighing their options. Translation: NO ONE (in their right mind) wants those jobs anymore. Incredibly, both teams (at the time of this writing) actually have good candidates to choose from.
FINALLY, someone held the New York Giants’ feet to the fire, demanding the proverbial moon to take the job. John Harbaugh (formerly the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens) demanded direct access to the owners. Very appropriate, I think.
I honestly expected the Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins, and Cleveland Browns to have more difficulty hiring new coaches. And I can’t wrap my head around the Houston Texans firing four coaches in three seasons. Miraculously, they’ve managed to turn things around.
I’m a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. I sometimes think they and the New England Patriots go too far in the opposite direction. Hanging onto players, coaches, and executives for too long. My point is that there is a happy medium we, as fans, owners, and sports talking heads, need to find before people stop caring about the NFL.
There has to be a middle ground, or it will all fall apart. Teams like the Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo Bills (normally), Atlanta Falcons (usually), Los Angeles Rams, and the Seattle Seahawks usually get it just about right.
There is far too much turnover in the NFL. From one year to the next, you never know who’s in or who’s out, in terms of players, owners, coaches, or executives. Now, even the Steelers, who have just hired their fourth head coach since 1969, have joined the coaching carousel.
I personally have moved on to other football leagues. I’m getting increasingly excited about my Arizona Rattlers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Birmingham Stallions, to name a few of my favorite teams.
I don’t know if I will be able to care about the NFL anymore. I will always be a Steelers and Raiders fan, but I don’t know if I can care about the NFL anymore.
Only time will tell….
