Oklahoma State fans are already licking their wounds after Oregon lit them up like a pinball machine, and now they’ve got something else to chew on: Gavin Gundy’s Instagram meltdown.
Yep, the head coach’s son decided to go full keyboard warrior, torching reporters, calling out fans. No debate. No “Yeah, but…”
Gavin Gundy: Let’s cut the BS. Mike Gundy IS Oklahoma State football.”
He then rattled off his dad’s résumé… the bowls, the titles, the NFL players, and capped it off by calling people “spoiled kids with Wi-Fi.” Because nothing says “rational defense” like roasting your critics’ internet connection.
He even went after OSU alum and reporter Carson Cunningham, saying, “Imagine being this pathetic… You will never understand the size of balls it takes to do what he does…and how Oklahoma State would be completely irrelevant without him.” (Somewhere, Barry Sanders just sipped his coffee and raised an eyebrow.)
Here’s the problem: Cowboy fans aren’t mad because they forgot what Gundy’s done. They’re mad because they just watched Oregon hang 66 points and 600 yards on their team like it was a scrimmage against air. They don’t need a history lesson. They need answers. They need hope. They need something that doesn’t involve getting ratioed on Instagram.
And it’s not like this is the first PR fumble out of Stillwater. Let’s not forget Gundy’s OAN (One America Network, the far-right-wing news network) T-shirt fiasco. He apologized and then cut $1 million off his own contract to calm everybody down.
So when your fanbase is already touchy, maybe….just maybe, don’t throw gasoline on the fire by letting Junior come in hot with a profanity-laced TED Talk.
At the end of the day, Mike Gundy is a legend in Stillwater. He built the program up, he’s got the most wins, he’s been “the guy” forever. But right now? Fans don’t want to hear about yesterday’s highlights. They want to know why today looks like a blooper reel.
And the last thing they needed after a 66-point beatdown was for the coach’s kid to log on and call them Wi-Fi crybabies. If there’s one thing Oklahoma State fans don’t lack, it’s Wi-Fi, and they’re more than happy to use it.
