The Creamline Cool Smashers defeated the Chery Tiggo Crossovers on August 31 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City.
The game ended sweeping the Chery Tiggo Crossovers in straight sets, 25-15, 25-13, 25-23.
Creamline Cool Smashers already showed their strength and intensity in the 1st set of the game, with Panaga’s killing attack taking the 1st point of the game. Gumabao, the player of the game, also showed her towering blocks and explosive attacks, scoring 5 points during the 1st set. Valdez also delivered crucial service aces, securing their set point and winning through the opponent’s error.
During the 2nd set, Robles of Chery Tiggo Crossovers delivered her relentless attack—scoring the first point in the 2nd set. Gumabao also showed fierceness inside the court, scoring 7 points with many crucial blocks. Galanza’s thundering attack secured the second set.
Chery Tiggo Crossovers executed their coordination and teamwork during the 3rd set of the game. That allowed them to tie the score with the Creamline Cool Smashers. But with Bernardo, she displayed her commanding attacks, giving the Cool Smashers the edge during the 3rd set. Gumabao fired the match point, sealing the bronze medal for Creamline Cool Smashers to the delight of the crowd.
“Execute, just give your best. I was just thinking about killing a ball, so that’s all I had in mind. It was a bit cold, but it was over,” Gumabao said, after being asked what was going through her mind at that crucial moment, to finish it off. This victory highlighted the camaraderie and sportsmanship that have been hallmarks of their journey this season.
