Woe are Giants fans! New York has lost 31 of its last 40 games under Daboll (a 23% win rate), and has only won one of its last 15 games (7%).
Future Hall of Fame Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid entered Sunday night’s game against the Giants with 301 wins (including the postseason). He won three Super Bowls to go with his six Super Bowl appearances, including three straight recent appearances. Fourth-year Giants head coach Brian Daboll entered the contest with an 18-34-1 record. Both were searching for their first win of the season after disappointing starts.
If you had a bet in this contest, you would have gone with the Chiefs. The idea that Daboll would outcoach Reid would be LOL funny. To no one’s surprise, the game ended up in a Chiefs’ well-executed 22-9 victory over the winless Giants at MetLife Stadium.
That said, Daboll pulled out several “tricks” to counteract Reid’s trickery in this contest. For instance, the Giants’ head coach had the Giants enter the game without a kicker because backup kicker Jude McAtamney wasn’t activated for the game. So when Graham Gano was injured during pregame warmups, punter Jamie Gillan was called on to kick the extra point after the Giants scored in the second quarter. He missed.

Even more bizarre, Daboll put Gano in the game (4th Quarter with KC up 16-6), and he kicked a field goal, making it 16-9.
For another trick, Daboll had Giants quarterback Russell Wilson hand the football to Tyrone Tracy and Skattebo for first downs, but he didn’t get Malik Nabers involved early. While the running backs produced plenty of yards, they didn’t yield many points. How is it Nabers only had two catches for 13 yards and got his first catch in the fourth quarter?
Here’s another one: Daboll put Jaxson Dart in to get the Giants going offensively in the third quarter, and it ended with a field goal. But all the Giants’ backup quarterback did was hand the ball to Skattebo. Wilson could have done that. So why rotate quarterbacks for a series?
Clearly, the Chiefs were not fooled by any of this.
Meanwhile, Reid showed why he is the best in the business. Despite the Chiefs struggling on offense, Big Red had his team put two second-half touchdowns on the scoreboard. He utilized Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt to perfection. Not only did they run, but they also had plenty of yardage on first downs. He was also able to get Mahomes to spread the field with extra receivers, and the team executed an 11-play, 74-yard touchdown drive to start the third quarter with a 16-6 lead.
Reid had all the answers. Daboll did not.
When the Giants hired Daboll as head coach, he was supposed to transform this offense. Instead, this offense is offensive for fans to watch. Worse yet, there’s no guarantee the head coach can get it right with Dart behind center. Remember Daniel Jones?
After being schooled by Reid, Daboll made a case to be fired by the Giants.
