Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have been dominating men’s Grand Slam singles events, so it was a good bet that one of them would walk away with the 2025 All-England Club’s Gentlemen’s Singles Trophy.
This Wimbledon final featured two names we know and love–Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz–players who have combined for the last seven Grand Slams and have won nine total in the past five years. These two are the world’s best and second-best tennis players, and they took the stage at the world’s most prestigious tennis event, the Championships of Wimbledon.
The two had just faced off in a Grand Slam event (French Open, which Alcrez won), and they did not disappoint. This time, Sinner defeated Alcaraz in four sets (4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4).
Sinner made very few mistakes, especially in the last three sets. Alcaraz had 15 aces, but he also had seven double faults, and the gaffes allowed Sinnner to take advantage and win critical points.
If these past two Grand Slam competitions have taught us anything, it’s that nobody is on their level, and probably won’t be for a while. Sinner claimed his fourth Grand Slam, his first on grass, and has won three out of the last four Grand Slam tournaments.
Now we look forward to the U.S. Open. Will Jannik close out a near-perfect year? Can Alcaraz rise up again? Or will the unexpected happen? We’ll know on Sunday, September 7.
