We are witnessing the rise of a contender for the Eastern Conference crown, a squad primed to make a strong playoff run.
Some might say, “Pump the Brakes!” because they see it as premature praise for a young team whose season has just begun. Another way of looking at it is that the Mystics are a formidable team with a balance of veterans and rookies.

The Mystics did well in the draft with the acquisition of Sonia Citron, Kiki Iriafen, Georgia Amoore, Zaay Green, and Lucy Olsen. Unfortunately, we won’t see Amoore now because she’s injured. But Citron is averaging 17 points per game and 2.5 assists, and Iriafen’s 15 points per game and nine rebounds are strong early on.
Coach Sydney Johnson has blended the newcomers with the team’s veterans. Veteran guards Jade Melbourne (13.5 pts., 3.5 rebs., 2.5 ast.) and Brittney Sykes (24.5 pts., 6.0 ast.), along with center Stefanie Dolson, anchor the team.
The Mystics’ West Coast road trip starts tonight at 10:00 p.m. at San Francisco’s Chase Center with a visit to Tiffany Hayes and the Golden State Valkyries. It continues on Friday when the team plays the Aces in Las Vegas at 10:00 p.m. at Michelob Ultra Arena.
