“BAND OF BROTHERS, THEN AND NOW,” A New Book About the 1966-70 WVU Football Mountaineers

, ,

Syndicated columnist Bob Hertzel says, “Frank Fear offers up a well-crafted, insightful book covering the Carlen-Bowden era that was so important in getting WVU football on the national map.” (Announcing two mid-September book signings in the Mountain State! Details at bottom.)

It is about a time, a place, and an extraordinary group of West Virginia University Mountaineers.

It is one of the most important eras in WVU football history, the pivot point between the great teams of the 1950s and the championship-level success that began in the 1980s. And more than a half-century later, many of these men are still connected, a self-proclaimed “Band of Brothers.” Loaded with voices of those who participated back then, Band of Brothers, Then and Now is an engaging read.

Public Engagement

Frank was Tony Caridi’s guest on CityNet Statewide Sportsline (March 27). Tony introduces the book at the beginning of the program, and then he and Greg Hunter interview Frank at the 31:35 minute mark of the program.

Interview excerpt here courtesy MetroNews and Twitter.

In his May 2 column about Band of Brothers, Then and Now, WVU’s John Antonik quotes Frank about the impact of coaching influence. “Everybody talks about the influences coaches have on their lives, and (in this case) it is almost as if Carlen and Bowden were looking over (the players) shoulders as they lived their lives, and they (the players) wanted to make them proud.” Read Antonik’s commentary here.

Frank was Hoppy Kerkeval’s guest on Talkline with Hoppy Kerkeval (April 21). Listen here. (Interview begins at the 54-minute mark.)

Two of the “Band of Brothers,” Bob Zitelli and Charlie Fisher, join Frank to talk about Band of Brothers, Then and Now, in a pre-publication clip produced and hosted by WVU football great Dale Wolfley (March 31).
