TSC SPECIAL: Eagles Fly High And West To Minneapolis

In Super Bowl LII, Philadelphia will do what Atlanta and Seattle could not: beat Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

It’s been 14 long years since the Eagles played in “The Big Game.” They’re back again … playing the same team as last time, the New England Patriots. Philadelphia earned the encore because of its stellar play and strong fan support.

The Eagles got there in fine fashion, too. Playing possibly their best game of the season, Philadelphia stomped the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday, 38-7, in the NFC Championship.

Nick Foles went 26-33 for 352 yards and three touchdowns. Comfortable in the pocket, Foles read the defense well, made great decisions, and was able to throw the deep ball accurately. Zach Ertz had a team-high 93 yards on eight catches. Alshon Jeffery was five for five with 85 yards and two touchdowns, including a 53-yard bomb from Foles. Torrey Smith scored on a flea flicker.

The Eagles’ run game was solid, too. Jay Ajayi ran for 73 yards on 18 carries. LeGarrette Blount had 21 yards on six carries and a touchdown. Corey Clement had 20 yards on two carries.

The Eagles’ offense totaled 456 yards and scored four touchdowns against a very good Vikings defense.

But the NFC Championship game wasn’t defined by offense alone. The Eagles’ D was in lockdown mode. After allowing a TD on the Vikings’ first drive, Philadelphia shut down Minnesota for the rest of the game. Mychal Kendricks led the team with eight total tackles and Patrick Robinson scored on a 50-yard pick-6. The Eagles also caused three turnovers, including Derek Barnett’s forced fumble on a sack, which led to an Eagle touchdown.

Can Philadelphia sustain its performance in the Super Bowl?

Well, truth be told, Tom Brady hasn’t beaten a Super Bowl team that has a defense with depth and good rotation. And that’s exactly what he’ll face against the Eagles.

Underdogs yet again, I pick the Eagles to continue doing what they’ve been doing — winning.

Eagles 35, Patriots 24.

Love reading the articles from Massismo Schiano. Being from southern NJ, Philadelphia teams are “my teams” to cheer on. Being able to read “news from home” while here in FL is awesome! Thank you for publishing Massimo’s articles.
