DETROIT – Last Saturday Oklahoma City Thunder’s forward Carmelo Anthony reached a major milestone in his 15-year career–scoring 25,000 points. With it, he joins an elite club that includes Hakeem Olajuwon, Michael Jordan, Jerry West, Kobe Bryant and active players, LeBron James and Dirk Nowitzki.

“It’s a very, very special, special moment. To try to downplay it, it’s a special moment,” Anthony said. “To kind of know what it took to get to this point and the amount of work that was put in to get to this point, the teammates that I’ve played with over the years, and for me to still be at a point in my career where I still have a lot more to go.”

His close friend, LeBron James, tweeted: 25K large!!!!! Congrats my brother @carmeloanthony #WalkingBuckets”

Current coach Billy Donovan chimed in: “You look at 25,000 points, that’s a lot of points, and doing it on a nightly basis like he’s done is really remarkable.” Donovan continued: “He’ll go down as one of the greatest scorers this game has known and I think the other part of it, too, is his willingness to be that kind of scorer for a good portion of his career and step into a team and in some ways adjust and change to provide our team what it needs, and he’s been a consummate professional and really good about that.”

Here’s how Anthony achieved the milestone:

Denver Nuggets (2003-2011):  13,970 points
New York Knicks (2011-2017): 10,186 points
OKC Thunder (2017-present): 861 points.

Anthony is one of the League’s best pure scorers and one of the best isolation players who has ever played the game. For OKC Anthony is playing a stretch 4 as a catch-and-shoot type player.

He’s looking great and getting more comfortable in the Thunder’s offense as he eyes something that has eluded him so far–an NBA championship.
