Kaya Makati FC and Global Cebu Settle For Draw In Thriller

The game was played in heavy rain. 


July 2 — A Philippines Football League battle between Kaya Makati FC and Global Cebu FC  ended in a 2:2 draw. The game was put on hold halfway through the second half due to rain.

The game started with both sides playing long balls to their strikers. Global Cebu came close to having the opener, but missed the clear chances from close range.

The breakthrough came in the 27 minutes when Global striker, Sylla Sekou, found the rushing Shu Sasaki with a pass and the forward converted the chance to put the visitors in front.

A goal down, Kaya changed tactics from long balls forward to short pass build-up from the back and controlled the game. Jordan Mintah came close to getting the equalizer for the home side, but his effort went over the bar. Daniels Kenshiro also had a chance to draw Kaya level, but he was slow to pull the trigger and defenders recovered

The first half ended Kaya Makati FC 0:1 Global Cebu FC.

The second half started with Jordan Mintah leveling the game for Kaya from close range in the 46 minutes, assisted by Robert Mendy. After the goal, Global attacked but could not find that decisive finish.

Jordan had another fantastic chance to put Kaya ahead after Global goalkeeper Patrick Deyto was beaten, but his shot to the goal was blocked by the defender.

With so much rain and thunder, the game was put on hold for more than 15 minutes.

As the referee blew for a restart, Kaya changed tactics. Mendy moved to the right wing and Jordan moved centrally. The change was brilliant as Kaya took the lead with Robert Mendy’s goal in the 89 minutes, assisted by Jordan Mintah.

Global leveled the game in the 90 minutes as the game ended in a 2:2 draw.
