Rene Rosales made average players good, good players great, and all players better people.
When does a coach become a coach? It happens when they prepare student-athletes for play on the field and for life.

A great example is Rene E. Rosales of the Spring Branch Independent School District. Coach Rosales has spent over thirty years as a public school educator. Nearly twenty-five of those years have been spent at Memorial High School in Houston, TX.
Coach Rosales touched my life. He was my position coach when I played football for the Memorial Mustangs. He coached me for four years and the work ethic I learned under him is still with me to this day.
He was tough when he needed to be tough, but he’d always praise you when you did well. “Good job, I knew you can do it,” he’d say.
Rosales enables success in life. He organizes an annual golf tournament to raise money for scholarships ($70,000 dollars raised to date). The scholarships, named in honor of his brother, Luis James Rosales, are awarded to MHS graduates.
Coach will be retiring at the end of this school year. While he’ll be remembered for many things, one thing stands out: he made average players good, good players great, and all players better people.
Congratulations, Coach Rosales, for a job very well done!
I played with Rene in Pearland, he was always a great player and gave 110%. I am not surprised he did the Sam in his Coaching career. It’s like our football coach Leon Sablatura told us back then, “Weak links are easily replaced and never missed”. There is no doubt Rene was not a weak link, and he will be missed!
