Your Betting Guide to Super Bowl LI (Hint: I LOVE The Prop Bets!)

Storyline: Betting the point spread is a given. But will “thanks to God” be the first thing the MVP mentions in his postgame comments?

With the Pro Bowl out of the way, all eyes are set on Sunday’s Super Bowl. My favorite part of Super Bowl Week isn’t the game. It’s Prop Bets and gambling all of my money in the week leading up to the game.

Let’s take a look at some of the Prop bets I find especially appealing.

What will Luke Bryan be wearing when he sings the National Anthem?
Blue Jeans or Any other pants/shorts: The obvious choice here is blue jeans. It’s the favorite and for good reason. Bet the house!

Length of the National Anthem–Over/Under 2:09
The average time for singing the National Anthem at the last eleven championship events is … drum roll … 1:58. I’m taking the over. Taking the over is always more fun and I believe a country singer is the most likely to draw it out and take his time. This is also a low line compared to last year (2:20) and the year before (2:17).

Will the opening kickoff result in a touchback?
Easy money: Yes! Don’t even need to get into the Sabermetrics on this one.

Super Bowl MVP
My money is on Tom Brady. I think the Patriots will take this game and Tom Brady will be the reason why. Atlanta gives up a lot of passing yards and Brady thrives off of those kinds of teams. If you like the Falcons, then go with Julio Jones. He’ll need a big game to get the win.

Who will the Super Bowl MVP mention first?
God 2/1, Team/teammates 2/1, Coach 9/1, Family 9/1, Owner 9/1, Donald Trump 20/1, Won’t mention any of those 5/2

At first glance you gotta think, “go with God.” But not so fast. I’m putting my money on Team/Teammates. Why? Like I said, I think Tom Brady will take the SB MVP and I see him thinking of team first. I have absolutely no statistical or analytical backing on this one. I’m going with my gut.

What color will the liquid be that is poured on the winning coach?
Clear 3/1, Lime/green 3/1, Orange 3/1, Yellow 3/1, Red 6/1, Blue 15/2, Purple 12/1

Last year I went Yellow. I lost. There was no reasoning behind it either. This year I’m hammering blue. I think New England will win and most of my bets reflect that choice. Super Bowl 49 ended with Belichick covered in Blue Gatorade. That’s my pick this time around, too. I’m playing it smart. It’s also a bit of a long shot … and I have no clue why.

If the Patriots win, will Brady, Belichick or Kraft be seen shaking Roger Goodell’s hand on TV?
Yes 5/9, No 7/5

I’m throwing a couple bucks on “No” here just because I thinks it’s pretty funny. Nothing would make me happier than watching these three completely disregard Goodell, pretending he doesn’t exists.

And finally….

The Super Bowl Point Spread–Patriots(-3)/Falcons
I have the Patriots winning and covering. I think New England has too many weapons and the weapon wearing 12 will be sitting in the pocket picking apart the defense.

I see a big game from Brady, a touchdown or two from Blount near the goal line, and Belichick getting that 5th ring to fill up his hand.

About Brady Grogan

Growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio, I played just about every sport–basketball, baseball, soccer, and lacrosse, mainly. Now–after graduating from Miami University (Ohio)–I stick mostly to the sidelines. I’m a fan of all things Ohio– Reds, Bengals, Buckeyes, Cavaliers, Jackets, and Crew–and I love to share my sports thoughts.
