Markelle Fultz Is Quietly Asserting Himself As Top NBA Draft Pick

Storyline: University of Washington frosh, Markelle Fultz, is a do-everything playmaker.

Coming into this year’s college basketball season there was a lot hype around the incoming freshman class –just as there usually is. The scouts have been hyping up guys like Lorenzo Ball, Jason Tatum, and Dennis Smith. But there’s another guy they’re sleeping on (at least those on the East Coast are).

It’s Markelle Fultz.

Fultz, a 6’4 guard out of Upper Marlboro MD, starred at DeMatha High, but he didn’t make the varsity until his junior season! Fultz then excelled and ended up being one of the Top 10 prospects in the 2016 recruiting class. He committed to the University of Washington.

Fultz has continued his high school success in Seattle. He’s averaging 22.8 points a game along with 6.9 assists and 6.1 rebounds. Fultz is making Washington the favorite to win a weak PAC12 conference. The Huskies could be a key piece in a NCAA tournament run, too.

Fultz has been a do-everything playmaker. The NBA loves those kinds of players. I compare Fultz to a guy like James Harden (yes, James Harden!). Why? Both are combo guards– primary scorer or primary assist man.

Fultz has been fun to watch in high school and college. If success continues, expect him to be a top pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.
