Minnesota, Sam Bradford’s Last Stand

, , , ,

Storyline: While Sam Bradford certainly has the physical tools to make the most of the situation in Minneapolis, the big question marks are durability and mental toughness.

For Sam Bradford it has been a roller coaster ride in the NFL. He got the largest rookie contract in NFL history, has suffered multiple torn ACL’s, was traded to Philadelphia, and a coaching change there brought competition for starting QB.

Now Bradford has been traded again, this time to the Minnesota Vikings. I’m sure he welcomed the trade because it’s an opportunity to prove that he’s a capable, starting NFL QB.

Bradford must play well this year to qualify for another big-money contract. He certainly has the tools to do that. And Bradford has things in Minneapolis that he lacked in his previous stops–St. Louis and Philadelphia. First, he has stability. Mike Zimmer is  going to be there for the long haul. Second, Bradford has offensive weapons that he lacked with the Rams and Eagles. There’s Adrian Peterson, an almost certain candidate for NFL MVP, who’ll likely get 2000 yards rushing (barring injuries). Bradford also has future Pro Bowl receivers, Stefon Diggs and Laquon Treadwell. Finally, he has a solid defense.

While Bradford certainly has the physical tools to make the most of the situation in Minneapolis, the big question marks are durability and mental toughness.

The bottom line is this: If Bradford wants to be an NFL starting QB then he must show that he can get over hurdles that were evident during his previous stops. He must prove he’s worthy.
