Storyline: If Game 1 is any indication of things to come, then bench play will be a key ingredient for winning. Written by Juan Medina, Colombia.

The NBA Finals are here!

Game 1 may be a review of how the series is going to develop. We saw many deficiencies in both teams, particularly among the top players. For the Warriors, Stephen Curry (2015-16 regular season MVP) and Klay Thompson (2016, 3- point shootout winner) didn’t answer to expectations. The “Splash Brothers” only combined for a total of 20 points, their lowest total of the season.

As for the Cavs, Kevin ove, Kyrie Irving, and LeBron James were not very effective, combining for a total of 66 points and 11 turnovers. But the starting shooting guard, JR Smith, had the worst performance of the night, scoring only 3 points in 36 minutes of action.

The game was decided by the bench. Golden State won on that score with great performances from Andre Iguodala, Shawn Livingston, and Leandro Barbosa. They combined for 43 points and played great defensively. The Cavs’ bench, on the other hand, just wasn’t very good. Matthew Dellavedova, Iman Shumpert, and Channing Frye scored a total of 7 points.

If Game 1 is any indication of things to come, then bench play will be a key ingredient for winning.
