Why is Greg Hardy Still in the NFL?

Storyline: The only reason Greg Hardy is still employed as a football player is because he’s talented. Written by Jason M. Stanin, London, from BetAdvisor NFL News and Rumors

Issues of violence surrounding NFL players have become more publicly discussed over the past few years. That discussion has led to interesting questions regarding the morality of NFL teams that choose to employ those responsible for acts of violence. The most prominent example is Dallas Cowboys DE, Greg Hardy, whose acts on- and off-the-field make it hard to see why he is allowed to play the game.

Greg Hardy’s Off Field Mistakes

Hardy, a very large man, threw a woman onto a couch that had a pile of guns on it. He threatened to kill her while performing various acts of violence in the process. Hardy was charged for the crime and was initially convicted. But due to laws in the state in which he was charged, Hardy’s original conviction served what an “indictment” would have been categorized elsewhere. Then, Hardy’s accuser stopped cooperating with the proceedings and charges were dropped. As a result, Greg Hardy was allowed to play football again, signing with the Dallas Cowboys this offseason.

Greg Hardy’s On Field Outburst

During a game with the New York Giants last week Hardy lashed out at the Special Teams after that unit allowed a kickoff return for a touchdown. Hardy yelled at his teammates and, then, shoved the Cowboys’ Special Team’s coach. When Cowboys star wide receiver Dez Bryant tried to calm down Hardy, Hardy yelled at him, too.

Why Is Hardy Allowed To Play?

The only reason Greg Hardy is still employed as a football player is because he’s talented. As we’ve seen in the cases of Ray Rice and other problematic players with lesser talent, once your talent declines, the NFL and its franchises will “care” about your on- and off-field issues.

Sadly, Greg Hardy will be allowed to play until he is no longer effective, at which point the League and his team will cite “behavior” as a major reason why he is no longer playing.

It’s a familiar story in the NFL.

Greg Hardy needs to be fired, period. He is a lousy player, beats women, and he does not deserve to be employed within the NFL. Terrible character and this is why the NFL is losing fans.
