Is it Time to Dump Sanchez?

, ,

Nobody knows what the future of the New York Jets holds. Will they go back to ground and pound? Will they be a defensive power house again? Will they make the playoffs? Mark Sanchez or Geno Smith?

These questions will remain unanswered until the season progresses, but I want to touch on that last question; should Mark Sanchez or Geno Smith start the season. I firmly believe it is time to bench Sanchez for good. Do I think Rex Ryan will? No. Do I think Sanchez has a shorter leash this season? Absolutely. I believe Rex Ryan’s patience are running out with Sanchez. I know what everyone is thinking, it’s about time.

To me Mark Sanchez doesn’t deserve to even start the season. He doesn’t deserve to be a starting quarterback in the NFL and he hasn’t proven it either. Since coming into the NFL, Mark Sanchez has regressed from being an average QB, to simply a bad QB. He can’t throw, he can’t run and he can’t handle the pressure of New York. What use is he to the team? He brings absolutely nothing to the table, so why even keep him on the team. I haven’t been able to figure any reason why he deserves a spot on the Jets. I may be a little harsh, but if you think about it, he’s getting paid millions of dollars to turn the ball over constantly.

It is time to move on to the Geno Smith era. He may not be the most accurate long range passer, but he has shown in training camp he has improved. In addition to his improved long passing, Smith is an outstanding athlete and is excellent with short passes. Don’t get me wrong he has plenty of room for improvement as well, but he has more overall skill than Sanchez ever had.

As many other people think, if Sanchez continues his mediocrity and isn’t benched, Rex Ryan is going to be canned. Giving Smith a chance would without a doubt buy Rex some more time to see what happens. If I was GM Jeff Idzik, I would have just released Sanchez in the offseason to rid themselves of the distraction.

Whatever happens, I hope the Jets actually improve this season and remove their title as the laughing stock of the NFL.

Great column. I agree whole heartedly. Sanchez must go ,he is a bum. I have been waiting too long for the Jets to become a real threat in the NFL. Next one to go should be Rex. Lets hope for the best this year. Go JETS, JETS, JETS………..

I actually hope the Jets are as bad as possible this season so the can have a chance for the first draft pick. Better to be terrible than mediocre
